Question About Masterpiece Customizing

Can anyone tell me if a Masterpiece say 1038 be ordered with a floating division (String)?

This is a guess...the 1038 is a unique design, as it draws upon the framework of the 968 playing almost totally different stops and fully spreads it out (and very nicely) over 4 manuals...so somewhere I recall that it is not quite as customizable in configuration as another configuration.

At the same time I can tell you that Randall Smith's 928 looks and plays so completely differently than a regular 928 (this organ's stoplist and controls have been CUSTOMIZED in capital letters) so anything can be done....so let's see what the experts have to say.

If you are willing to make the floating string division using the tabs or drawknobs already on the organ. In other words, you can use any of the existing stops to make into something else - you just can't add additional drawknobs.

Also, you can use pistons for some operations which may now be on a drawknob - i.e. Chimes, Tremolo, etc...

Hope this helps.

Not really true. You can make it anything you would like - subject of course to the artistic requirements of the company. In other words, you can't get so carried away that no one with any credibility in the organ world would allow such a stoplist.

the 1038 is completely customizable .  It has a floating solo division that you can make into a string division if you wish that will float or play on a single manual of your choice.
